Grover Corlew recognized that Indian River County and the stretch of land on U.S. 1 between 20th Street and 8th Street in Vero Beach was ripe for commercial redevelopment. The company acquired the land, which was then a former large auto dealership, cleared it for development and signed a land lease with Wawa, which has become one of America’s most iconic convenience stores. Grover Corlew finished construction on the project, which sold in December 2016. Two other outparcels were subsequently created adjacent to Wawa to accommodate a new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and a MedExpress urgent care walk-in clinic.
